Intel Core i5-10500E 10th Gen Embedded Processor, 6-Core, LGA1200

The Intel Core i5-10500E is an embedded processor with six cores and twelve threads, built on Intel's 10th generation Core architecture, codenamed Comet Lake. It runs at a base frequency of 3.10 GHz and reaches 4.20 GHz under Turbo Boost, backed by 12 MB of Intel Smart Cache within a 65 W thermal envelope. It installs in an FCLGA1200 socket on Intel 400 series boards and supports dual channel DDR4 at up to 2666 MT/s, and as an embedded SKU it is offered on Intel's extended availability terms, which is what makes it suitable for designs that have to stay buildable for years.

Compatibility and integration considerations

This processor uses the FCLGA1200 socket and Intel 400 series chipsets, so it will not drop into the FCLGA1151 boards used by the 6th through 9th generation parts despite the similar pin count. Embedded designs pair it with the embedded chipsets of that series, which Intel lists as H420E, Q470E and W480E, and it also runs on the standard 400 series desktop chipsets. Memory runs in dual channel DDR4 at up to 2666 MT/s with a 128 GB ceiling. ECC is not supported on this part, which is worth confirming against the design intent, since embedded does not imply ECC on this generation and the 7th generation embedded parts did support it. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 requires display outputs on the board, and cooling should be rated for 65 W.

Typical use cases

This processor is aimed at industrial PCs, machine vision controllers, medical systems and other designs with a long production life, where the value of the embedded SKU is that the part stays orderable well past the point a desktop equivalent would be gone. Six cores and twelve threads at 65 W suit workloads that run continuously rather than in bursts, and the i5-10500 desktop part is not a substitute, since it clocks differently and is not offered on the same availability terms.
