Compatibility and integration considerations

The FCLGA1151 socket is shared with the 6th and 7th generation parts, but this processor needs an Intel 300 series chipset and will not boot on a 100 or 200 series board despite fitting the socket, so verify the chipset rather than the socket when ordering against an existing platform. Boards that shipped before this generation launched may need a BIOS update before they will post. The 35 W envelope puts six cores into a chassis that could not take the 65 W i5-9500E, but the base clock drops from 3.00 GHz to 2.20 GHz and turbo from 4.20 GHz to 3.60 GHz, so size sustained performance on the base figure rather than the headline. Memory runs in dual channel DDR4 at up to 2666 MT/s with a 128 GB ceiling. ECC is not supported. There is no Hyper-Threading. Integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 requires display outputs on the board.
