Compatibility and integration considerations

This processor needs a C232 or C236 based server board rather than a consumer 100 series board, and Intel's own compatibility list names systems rather than chipsets: the S1200SPL and S1200SPLR server boards, both discontinued. The FCLGA1151 socket is shared with 6th through 9th generation Core parts and with the later Xeon E line, so a matching socket is not evidence of support and the board's processor list settles it. Memory runs in dual channel as either DDR4 at up to 2133 MT/s or DDR3L at up to 1600 MT/s with a 64 GB ceiling, and ECC is supported. Integrated Intel HD Graphics P530 is the workstation certified counterpart of the desktop HD Graphics 530 and needs display outputs on the board.

Typical use cases

This processor is bought for entry level single socket servers, small business file and application servers, and workstations where ECC memory is required but a full Xeon Scalable platform is not. Intel stopped issuing servicing updates on 30 September 2022, so demand is replacement and maintenance for systems already fielded on it.
